During these exams, our dermatologist will check skin, hair and nails for any abnormalities such as skin lesions, growths, or rashes as well as acne, scarring, and discolorations. While at your appointment always ask questions and relay any concerns you may have. Astoria Dermatology is committed to treating the whole individual, not just a specific dermatological problem, and our dermatologist is happy to work with your personal needs.

A painless and hassle-free treatment option for chronic skin conditions like psoriasis and vitiligo, our excimer laser delivers a concentrated beam of light to affected tissue, without damaging the surrounding healthy skin.

How does it work? You may have noticed that chronic skin conditions like psoriasis and vitiligo subside the more sun you’re exposed to. UVB rays found in natural sunlight slow down the growth of these damaged skin cells. Constant sun exposure, however, can lead to other skin problems.Like natural sunlight, our excimer laser uses Narrow Band UVB (NBUVB) light to treat affected areas, but unlike natural sunlight, the excimer laser’s NBUVB beam is tailored by our dermatologist to the size, shape and severity of each individual patch, eliminating the risks to healthy skin. Treatment sessions can be as quick as 5 minutes and results can be seen in as little as four sessions.Schedule a consultation with our dermatologist to see if you are a candidate for excimer laser treatment.

PDT is a minimally invasive, light-based treatment option for individuals with conditions such as severe acne and certain nonmelanoma skin cancers. PDT is particularly recommended for those patients who may have had limited success with other treatments, including topical and oral medications.
How does it work? Our dermatologist will apply a topical photosensitizing agent to the affected areas of your skin. When exposed to the specific blue lights of PDT, the drug is activated, killing the abnormal cells that are causing the cancer or acne. The number of sessions and length of time needed for treatment depends on the individual patient. If you believe you are a candidate for PDT, come in to the office to discuss a treatment plan that best works for you.

A virtually painless injection, Botox is a neurotoxin that is carefully injected into targeted muscles to minimize the contractions that cause wrinkles. Results are visible in as little as a week and can last up to 4 months.

Come in for a consultation with our dermatologist, who will create a treatment plan that targets your particular problem spots. Your Botox treatment may be paired with chemical peels or fillers so that you leave Astoria Dermatology feeling rejuvenated.

Astoria Dermatology is proud to use Juvederm dermal fillers that use naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid to maintain moisture in targeted areas of the face. Concentrated hyaluronic acid lifts, smooths, and creates volume that makes you look and feel years younger. The gel-like hyaluronic acid is injected into the problem areas and results are immediately apparent. Some swelling or bruising may occur in the injection site, but this will subside in just a few days. Results can last up to two years.

Consult our dermatologist to learn about the best filler options for you. Our dermatologist may recommend that your filler procedure be paired with Botox, Dysport or chemical peels to make you look and feel your best self.

Chemical peels are an “out with the old, in with the new” option for a fresh, rejuvenated face. Chemical peels are primarily used for patients with acne or wrinkles. By exfoliating the top layer of your skin, you’re left with new, glowing skin that feels smooth and tight.

How does it work?

Our peels use glycolic acid to separate the top layer of old skin cells from the new skin cells underneath. The intensity of the treatment varies from person-to-person, some may need a light peel that removes only the uppermost layer of skin, while others with severe acne may require a deeper exfoliation with multiple sessions.

Our dermatologist will tailor your chemical peel treatment to work with your specific needs.

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Treatment, is an effective treatment for multiple concerns such as scarring, hyperpigmentation, and rosacea to wrinkles and stretch marks. The microneedling process stimulates elastin and collagen which results in the skin healing itself of imperfections.

How does it work?

Our dermatologist will use a device called a ‘Dermapen’ to prick the skin with tiny sterile needles in order to stimulate your skin’s innate healing process. Though it would seem otherwise, the process is relatively painless and our dermatologist applies a topical anesthetic to minimize any discomfort. The procedure takes twenty to thirty minutes and in just a few days, you’ll be able to see the noticeable difference in your skin.

Our dermatologist may recommend this treatment for you if you have facial scarring or discoloration.

Can’t seem to get rid of that belly bulge even with diet and exercise? CoolSculpting will freeze that fat away. With CoolSculpting, you can reduce everything from underarm to back to inner thigh fat. It is a safe, FDA-approved, nonsurgical alternative to other cosmetic body contouring procedures like liposuction.

How does it work?

Through a process called cryolipolisis, the CoolSculpting system targets and freezes fat cells. The CoolSculpting applicator will target the problem area with cold temperatures around 4-degrees Celsius. The frozen fat cells eventually die and, as your body naturally removes them, you begin to see a more defined you. Results can be seen in as little as two weeks. Multiple sessions may be required. Consult our dermatologist about your body contouring concerns to see if CoolSculpting is the right procedure for you.

PRP is a dermatological treatment option for hair loss and facial rejuvenation. By injecting a concentrated platelet-rich solution into problem areas, either wrinkles or thinning hairlines, blood, collagen and hair follicles are stimulated, leading to tightened skin and hair regrowth.

How does it work?

PRP is a solution derived from your own blood. The process begins with your blood being drawn. Using a centrifuge, our dermatologist will separate your platelet-rich plasma from your red blood cells. If you are a hair loss patient, the PRP solution is then injected into the areas of your scalp needing stimulation. If you are a patient looking for facial rejuvenation, the PRP is applied topically to the face and then microneedling is used to inject the solution into your skin.
